Post 69 – 30/05/24 – Have You A Question For Tracy? (3 Minute Read.)

This is the second of three mid-week posts designed to provide a bit more detail about the events on Saturday 8th June. This one looks at the Q & A sessions…

As you may recall, we invited RHUL’s Provost & Vice-Chancellor Tracy Bhamra (or a member of her team) to attend a Q & A session with us but unfortunately she declined. In her reply, she reminded us about the Royal Holloway & Runnymede Consultative Group (RHRCG) that she felt was the right mechanism for RHUL to use with regard to local community engagement.

WNTT (and I can also speak for some of those that have a seat at that table) believe that the RHRCG meetings are nothing more than a tick box exercise that enables RHUL to claim that it engages with the community. The meetings occur 3 times a year with no meaningful strategy ever being adopted to combat the problems of student HMOs, ASB and Parking. We believe that in the past it has been more of a ‘Wine & Cheese’ type affair with RHUL using it to massage relationships. Even today it may still have this effect: this weekend’s post (if we indeed get it out – still behind) includes a video featuring Surrey Police that I think demonstrates the ‘Wine & Cheese’ effect nicely.

However, the RHRCG meeting is RHUL’s preferred mechanism, so we thought that it would be a good idea for us to compile a list of questions for RHUL on behalf of local residents and use the conduit of EGVRA to submit them.

So if you have a question for RHUL, please come with it to the Social Hall. You can raise your concerns with the ‘Councillors That Care’ but we will also have a post box where you can post your question. We will then collate the questions and give them to EGVRA to forward at the next RHRCG meeting.

During the second half of the session, WNTT will use the vacated time to answer any questions that you may have about us.

The Social Hall events are for all residents that care about their community. You may have a question or you may just want to find out more. RHUL students and RHUL employees are also very much welcome.

We look forward to meeting you on Saturday 8th June.

Best wishes,
