Post 89 – 01/06/25 – Your Community Needs You – Saturday 14th June – Banners
We are going to start promoting our event in earnest this week. The photocall is on Saturday 14th June, now less than 2 weeks away.
If you are concerned about the adverse impacts that Royal Holloway’s expansion is having on the community, please come along to this mini-event.
Last year about 25 people turned up surpassing our expectations. The event was family friendly, sociable and ultimately a huge success – we know that Royal Holloway were encouraged to enter meaningful talks with our community representatives following last year’s event.
We now need to encourage Royal Holloway to follow through and deliver some meaningful mitigations…
- Do you think Royal Holloway should provide more parking on campus so that the streets around the community are no longer used as Royal Holloway’s unofficial overspill car park?
- Do you think Royal Holloway should provide a 24/7 call out facility so that ASB and noisy parties can be dealt with in real time?
- Do you think Royal Holloway should provide enough accommodation for their planned growth so that our precious family-housing stock is not turned into even more HMOs? The community already suffers adversely from the problems associated with high densities of HMOs.
If so, please come along to help deliver these messages to the university’s Senior Leadership Team.
We Need A Better Royal Holloway Not A Bigger Royal Holloway.
As last year, we welcome banners but just turning up will be great. If you do choose to make a banner, we will be offering a prize for the best slogan again. Last’s year winner scooped the prize (a Giant Toblerone) with:
‘Dumbledore wouldn’t let this happen.’
I am upgrading my ‘RHUL Does Not Care’ sign. I don’t think it will be prize-worthy but I am pretty confident in the statement. (See Pic.)

For all signs, please remember that this is a family friendly mini-event. (We had a couple of children attend last year). Other judging criteria include relevance to the issue, legibility and importantly (and slightly ironically) size.
